Tool 7-Screencast-o-matic

Have you ever tried to explain how to use a computer program, web tool, or software application to someone? It can be pretty frustrating, especially if you are not actually teaching them in person. Have you ever used an online tutorial when you were learning a new application or taking an online class? Screencasting is the perfect tool for these scenarios. Screencasting is a way to create short videos where you can record what's happening on your screen while you're narrating via microphone or webcam. I have used screencasting in many ways. Here is an example from the library website using a program called JING http://www.screencast.com/users/bmalapan/folders/Jing/media/eefd46f9-5735-4789-bc73-1c94ba4b12e4 and here are the math tutorial I did using this software Screencast-o-Matic http://www.amphi.com/schools/cdo-high/cdo-library/math-question-of-the-week.aspx

  2. I've used Screencast-o-Matic to record AIMS math answers, but still haven't quite figured out how I'd use it with students. I've thought about using it to demonstrate how to set up an AZCIS account and get started on a resume--which would be helpful to students who miss class, but using it in class might be too noisy. Maybe the internship classes could use it to describe how to fill out weekly documentation.

    That was really funny. I guess that I should have practiced looking through what I was going to talk about before I did it. Oh well it worked. As far as using this with first graders, I think I will pass on showing them this type of information. I could use the screencast to explain to new parents how to navigate through the school website. I would have to redo this one of course. It is very easy to use and I liked it.

    That was pretty easy to use. In my first grade classroom I could use it to show parents and students how to use websites we use in the classroom. I could also post a math or writing lesson so the parents and students could go on and watch. It could come in handy for showing the writing process or steps for solving math equations.

    That was actually pretty fun! I think I restarted it about a dozen times, so it's something I would definitely need to practice if I were going to do it for my classroom.

    I think this would be a great tool for parents. I often times have parents email me about a website their child has told them about. This would be such an easy way for them to see how to use the website instead of me writing step-by-step instructions in an email. This may also be beneficial for substitute plans.

    I also think this would be a great way to show parents how to navigate the school website, as well as our school's online grading system.

  8. This would be great to add to my website to explain to students how to use various math websites. I would not have to repeat instructions individually to students. For the graphing calculator site, students who did not have graphing calculators at home could easily access this site and look at transformations in functions. Awesome!
