Social bookmarking is a fabulous way to save all your bookmarks in one location that you can access anywhere from the web. Here is mine http://www.diigo.com/user/bmalapan
It is also a great tool to use with students. You can share bookmarks with others in your network, highlight passages on the web, and make sticky notes. You can also import all your bookmarks from Delicious, which I highly recommend. Once you go Diigo, you will never go back! Watch the video below to see how it works.
Educators can create an educator account so they will be advertisement free and teachers can create groups. Click GET STARTED NOW on this page http://www.diigo.com/ After you have an account, you will go back to http://www.diigo.com/ and ask for an educator upgrade if you wish!
Once you've created a Diigo account, add and tag some of your favorite websites. Post your Diigo username in COMMENTS below (mine is bmalapan), then, once other people have started posting their Diigo usernames, add a few of your colleagues to your network. You can add me first just to see how it works. When you're finished, create a post on your blog and reflect on your Diigo experience. Do you see this as a useful tool? Would you actually use this? How could it be helpful in a school setting?

DeleteOkay, so I signed up for the Diigo bookmarks. I think it is a really cool tool, but I didnt want to import all 6oo of my personal bookmarks for the world to see... I couldnt figure out how to import only a few categories without having to individually un-check everything. I simply bookmarked a few of my pages that i frequent. I may add all of my bookmarks eventually. I like how easy it is to bookmark and tag at the same time to categorize it. I also think it would be a fabulous tool for sharing educational sites with my colleagues. It would be interesting to see what sites other Spanish teachers find useful for their classroom. I wonder if there is a way to make some of the tags "private" and some of the tags "public"--i just dont like the idea of people looking at my financial or other personal bookmarks.
Deleteyes if you go to EDIT next to the url for your bookmark, you can make individual ones private:)
Deletei can't find you on diigo azlizard22

ReplyDeleteWow! I really like this! This will be a great tool for my IB kids to have a lot of linked web information at their finger tips! I practiced by setting up an account (amycislak) for my 10th grade students to have some AIMS practice links. Any time we can get important information to students, it is a GREAT thing!! Thanks for this neat tool Beth!
ReplyDeleteyes i love it and I think kids will too:)

ReplyDeleteI tried to apply for the educator upgrade, but the computer here at CDO is behaving badly (big surprise, I know). I'll try it from home. I bookmarked the pdf you sent with the book lists and common core alignments. Good to have since we’ll be immersed in it come August.
I like the idea of using diigo when students are doing research. This way, they don't have to worry about losing sight of a link for their works cited pages - an invaluable tool for plagiarism issues, etc.
yes i think it is an awesome too:)
